Welcome to Cecilya's universe!
Cecilya. 1992. Vilafranca del Penedès, Barcelona.
Since she was little, Cecilya always knew she would dedicate herself to music. At the age of three, she came home with a brochure from a music school insisting that she wanted to sign up... And she didn't stop insisting until they signed her up.
And that's where it all began. Music theory, singing and classical piano classes. At the age of 14, she stepped onto the stage as a solo singer for the first time, and since then, they haven't been able to get her off them.
Without giving up her passion, Cecilya graduated in Audiovisuals from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (ES) and Glyndwr University (UK) in 2014. At the same time, the artist trained in the different disciplines of musical theatre (singing, vocal technique, acting and dance) at the Escola Superior d'Art Dramàtic Eòlia, Vocal Factory and Aules in Barcelona.
In addition, from 2007 to 2014 she complemented her training with exhaustive work at Estill Voice Training in Barcelona and the Royal Academy of Music in London.
In 2015, she decided to embark on the first trip that would change her life by moving to Mallorca. There she discovers her passion for the blues, rock'n'roll and the 50s. She started from scratch playing in the street, until months later she managed to make a living from music working as a soloist singing in hotels, bars, pubs, venues and festivals in Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera.
In 2017, she took part in the famous television programme “La Voz”. This gave Cecilya the opportunity to make herself known outside the Balearic Islands. Met Nacho Ladisa, the Buenos Aires Blues School and the Blues en Movimiento Association, and toured around Argentina in 2018. An experience that literally changes Cecilya's life.
In 2019, after singing in Austria and Germany with Nacho Ladisa and the Vienna Blues Association, Cecilya decides to move to Paris and start again from scratch.
As soon as she arrives in Paris, she creates her 50s rock'n'roll cover band with the help of guitarist Francky Gumbo: Los Hot Tamales. They play in the most emblematic venues in the city of love (Le Caveau de la Huchette, Sunset Sunside, Le Balajo, ...) and appear on the posters of the most important rock'n'roll festivals in France.
In 2019, Cecilya tells her story at TEDxArxiduc, the first TEDxTalks held on the island of Mallorca. She participates as a singer and speaker with her “Survival Manual for Idealists”.
In 2020, in the middle of confinement, Cecilya decides to embark on a journey into her own musical universe with her first album of her own compositions influenced by the music that has made her travel the world and other American roots music... as folk, americana and country. With the help of guitarist and composer Rodolphe Dumont, "Cherry Blossom" is released in 2021 and is distributed in France by InOuïe Distribution.
In 2023, on the Spanish blues label Meseta Records, Cecilya's second album of original songs is released, under the group name Cecilya & the Candy Kings and once again featuring Rodolphe Dumont on guitar and co-composition. "Back in 1955" is an LP in the purest rhythm'n'blues style of the 50s with an international dream team (Sax Gordon, Rodolphe Dumont, Paul San Martín,...). Acclaimed by international critics and broadcasted on the airwaves around the world, the album has taken them to travel through Europe. In addition, thanks to the release of "Back in 1955", the famous English radio program "The Blues Lounge Radio Show" has proclaimed Cecilya "best international female blues artist 2023" (competing with artists such as Laura Chávez, Samantha Fish or Sue Foley).
Cecilya has performed her show at jazz, blues and rock'n'roll festivals in Spain, France, Portugal, Germany and the Netherlands.
Some examples are: Benicassim Blues Festival (ES), Wine & Blues Festival (PT), Blues Lawine Festival (DE), Bluezy Blues Festival (NL), Tolosand Blues Festival (ES), Sanbar Blues Festival (ES), Jazz en Nord (FR), Nuits Blues de Marnaz (FR), SAM Blues Festival (FR), Béthune Rétro (FR), Disney Rock'n'Roll Festival (FR), American Tours Festival (FR), Rockin' Gijón (ES), Rockin' Velay Tonight (FR), Festival au Fil du Jazz (FR), Festival Jazz de Mars (FR), Blues en Mars (FR), the Beaune Blues Boogie Festival (FR), Jazz à Jonzac (FR), St. Quentin Blues (FR), Nemours de Jazz (FR),...

My songs and some rocknroll
AVAILABLE ON THE 18/04/2025
“Parisian Mambo” is the second LP by “Cecilya & the Candy Kings”. The entire album is a tribute to the city of Paris, which has made the Catalan singer grow musically since she settled in the capital of love.
The 11 songs on the album will take you back to the 50s by the hand of a woman with a powerful and luminous voice committed to the causes of her time. The lyrics of Cecilya not only speak of love and celebration as rhythm and blues did at that time. They also speak of dreams (broken or not), internal struggles, healing, emigration, her native Mediterranean, the luck of being a free woman, the superficiality of the world we live in and the nostalgia for better times.
The music, signed Rodolphe Dumont, has been produced in detail to enhance the personal universe of Cecilya. Retro soundscapes and catchy melodies will take listeners back to the days of Elvis and Marilyn Monroe. "Parisian Mambo" captures the essence of Golden Age rhythm and blues - a blend of blues, rock and roll, boogie-woogie, mambo and more.
The musicians who made this album possible are:
Cecilya Mestres on vocals, Rodolphe Dumont on electric guitar, Sax Gordon on tenor and baritone saxophones, Olivier Cantrelle on piano, Abdell B. Bop on double bass and Denis Agenet on drums.
